ಕ್ಷಣಪ್ರಭಾ - Kshanaprabhaa

Having watched every teaser and trailer that the talented crew of Katyar Kaljat Ghusali  (KKG, meaning: a dagger through the heart) released over the last couple of months, and having read about the time-tested and much respected Marathi play of the same name that premiered 58 years ago, I was all set to soak in its movie adaptation, knowing that you can only expect the best from Subodh Bhave , even if he was making his directorial debut with this. My knowledge of Marathi is only limited to the recent movies I have watched, the Abhangs I listen to, and a few trips I have made to Pune. But the Marathi movies have made a huge mark on me of late, through their artistic quality and sheer acting brilliance of actors like Atul Kulkarni and Subodh Bhave. It looks like the strong theater background has its impact. Period dramas are the kind of movies that have come out exceptionally well over the years, and I expected KKG to be no less artistic than Balgandharva (2011) or  Lokm...

They are locking horns today again, and no better time to publish it... ಫೆಡರರ್ ಮತ್ತು ನಡಾಲ್ ನಡುವಣ ಪೈಪೋಟಿ ಉತ್ತುಂಗದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ಒಂದು ಪದ್ಯ: ಯೋಧರೀರ್ವರು ಬಂದು ನಿಂತರು ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಪರದೆಯ ಅಂಕಣ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸೆಣೆಸಲು ಸಿದ್ಧರಿದ್ದರು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಗೆಲುವಿನ ಕಂಕಣ ಓರ್ವನವರಲಿ ಸವ್ಯಸಾಚಿ ಜಗವನೆಲ್ಲವ ಗೆದ್ದವ ಪಂದ್ಯಕಲೆಯೋ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಟವೊ ಭಿನ್ನವರಿಯದೆ ನುರಿತವ ಹಿಮದ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಹಸಿರು ತಪ್ಪಲ ಹಸುಗಳೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬೆಳೆದವ ಹಸುಳೆತನವನು ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಹಸನು ಮಾಡುತ ಕಳೆದವ ಎರಡನವನೂ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಿಲ್ಲ ಗರಡಿ ಸಾಮಿನ ಗಟ್ಟಿಗ ಉಸಿರ ಬಿಡುವೆನು ಸೋಲನೊಪ್ಪೆನು ಎಂಬ ಧ್ಯೇಯದ ಜಟ್ಟಿಗ ಗೂಳಿಕಾಳಗ ನಡೆಸಿ ಮಣಿಸುವ ಕೆಂಪು ಮಣ್ಣಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಬೆವರ ಸುರಿಸುತ ಬಿದ್ದು ಏಳುತ ಜಯದ ಹಾದಿಯ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿದ ಜನರು ನೆರೆವರು ಮುಗಿದು ಬೀಳ್ವರು ಸತ್ತ್ವದಾಟವ ನೋಡಲು ಗೆಲುವನೊಬ್ಬನು ಸೋಲ್ವನೊಬ್ಬನು ಮುಂದುವರಿವುದು ಕಾಳಗ -  ವೆಂಕಟೇಶಪ್ರಸನ್ನ

ಇಸವಿ ೧೯೬೬-೬೭. ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರದಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಶಾಲೆ. ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಮೂರು ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳು. *** ಗುರುಗಳು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿದರು - "ಐದು ಕುರಿಗಳು ಒಂದು ಹುಲ್ಲುಗಾವಲಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಹುಲ್ಲನ್ನೂ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೆಂಟು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಂದು ಮುಗಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಸಲು ಎಷ್ಟು ಕುರಿಗಳು ಇರಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ?" "ಏಳು ಕುರಿಗಳು, ಸರ್!" ಥಟ್ ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರ ಬಂದಿತು ಕ್ಲಾಸಿನ ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದ, ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ. "ಯಾರದು ಲೆಕ್ಕವನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೇ ಹಾಗೇ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದ್ದು?" ಗುಡುಗುತ್ತಾ ಗುರುಗಳು ಉತ್ತರ ಬಂದೆಡೆಗೆ ಹೋದರು. ಕೆಲವು ಹುಡುಗರು ಒಬ್ಬನತ್ತ ಬೊಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಗುರುಗಳು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರು "ತೋರಿಸು, ನೀನು ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀಯಾ ಅಂತ"? ಹುಡುಗ ನಸುನಗುತ್ತಾ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬದಲು ತನ್ನ ತಲೆಯ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೊಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. "ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಲೆಕ್ಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸಬೇಕು" ಎಂದರು ಗುರುಗಳು. "ಏಕೆ ಸರ್? ಮೌಖಿಕವಾಗಿಯೇ ಮಾಡುವಷ್ಟು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿದೆಯಲ್ಲ?" ಎಂಬ ಹುಡುಗನ ಮಾರುತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜವಾಬಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟರೂ ಹತ್ತದ ಗಣಿತದ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸುಲಲಿತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. *** ಭಾಷಾ ತರಗತಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಶ್ರೀಹರ್ಷನ ನೈಷಧಚರಿತೆಯನ್...

Well, an almost unplanned one day trip to the temple towns and wildlife regions of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts of Karnataka last week (first week of April) proved two things: Think twice before doing this in the hot and sunny summer (Nanjanagudu and Talakadu were literally burning hot), and  You can spot some wildlife even in the scorching heat, if you are lucky... Some pictures from my last year's visit to Pattadakallu  - a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Malaprabha river, home to some of the most stunning Chalukya architectural grandeur.
