ಇಸವಿ ೧೯೬೬-೬೭. ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರದಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಶಾಲೆ. ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಮೂರು ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳು. *** ಗುರುಗಳು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿದರು - "ಐದು ಕುರಿಗಳು ಒಂದು ಹುಲ್ಲುಗಾವಲಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಹುಲ್ಲನ್ನೂ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೆಂಟು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಂದು ಮುಗಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಸಲು ಎಷ್ಟು ಕುರಿಗಳು ಇರಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ?" "ಏಳು ಕುರಿಗಳು, ಸರ್!" ಥಟ್ ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರ ಬಂದಿತು ಕ್ಲಾಸಿನ ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದ, ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ. "ಯಾರದು ಲೆಕ್ಕವನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೇ ಹಾಗೇ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದ್ದು?" ಗುಡುಗುತ್ತಾ ಗುರುಗಳು ಉತ್ತರ ಬಂದೆಡೆಗೆ ಹೋದರು. ಕೆಲವು ಹುಡುಗರು ಒಬ್ಬನತ್ತ ಬೊಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಗುರುಗಳು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರು "ತೋರಿಸು, ನೀನು ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀಯಾ ಅಂತ"? ಹುಡುಗ ನಸುನಗುತ್ತಾ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬದಲು ತನ್ನ ತಲೆಯ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೊಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. "ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಲೆಕ್ಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸಬೇಕು" ಎಂದರು ಗುರುಗಳು.
